Written by the famous director/scriptwriter Wong Jing, emerged as a very special drama in the early 1980s. Famous for creating Hong Kong's best-known comedies, Wong Jing wittily uses a light and comedic way to present a very serious story. Through the life of Chu Kam Chun (Adam Cheng Siu Chau), the drama provides a detailed account of modern Chinese history from the fall of the Qing Dynasty to World War II. Chu has more than ten different images in this drama, ranging from a beggar and a poor peasant to an Emperor. Some say that Chu's story combines that of China's last emperor Puyi and artist Tsang Tsou-Choi, who crowned himself the "Emperor of Kowloon" through his calligraphy graffiti. Apart from Adam Cheng, the drama also features other veterans like Louise Lee, Tang Bik Wan, Chun Wong and Lydia Shum.
